A garage, a drum roaster, and a stubborn idea
Rio Grande Roastery started in 2021 with a secondhand 5 kg drum roaster and the belief that Albuquerque deserved coffee roasted here, not shipped stale from a warehouse two time zones away. Today we roast three days a week for cafes, offices, and a few hundred households across the city.
We keep the operation small on purpose. Small enough to know our farmers by name, to cup every roast before it ships, and to answer the phone ourselves.
Why our coffee
Roasted daily, farm direct, delivered local.
Roasting process
Green beans
Bought farm direct from four family farms in Chiapas and Huila, above fair trade, every season.
Drum roast
Small batches on the 5 kg drum, three days a week, cupped before any of it ships.
Rest 48 hours
Fresh roast needs two days to settle before it tastes the way it should.
Ship
Bagged and out the door, by bicycle inside the North Valley, by post everywhere else.
